having a 6 inch black dial with gilt coloured Roman hours, the centre with exposed brocot escapement and double swell spade hands, surrounded by a gilt egg and dart molded border, bevelled glass and beaded edge to bezel; the twin train movement with temperature sensitive Ellicot pendulum, 'S. Martie et Cie, Medalle de Bronze' within a roundel, retailers stamp 'H.P. & Co' and numbered 3005 within a lozenge, 276 beneath, striking the hour and half hour on a bell; the arched top case with hop swag decoration flanking a bevelled glass panel, the plinth with a moulded brass edge above an engraved platform base. Sold with pendulum. 46cm (18") high

  • The 19th century French clock makers Samuel Marti & Cie won the Medalle de Bronze in 1860, and the Gold at the Paris exhibition in 1890, which places this clocks production somewhere between the two.
