Footnotes

  • Provenance - with The Attic Gallery, Swansea.

Located in Anglesey, the church is a particularly important landmark for Sir Kyffin as his grandfather was its rector. The artist recalls that 'the little church of Llanrhwydrus stands isolated in the middle of a large field above the cliffs that fall into the Irish Sea. It was built originally in the 6th Century and dedicated to Saint Rhwydrus'. Conveniently for Sir Kyffin's grandfather, 'the church was close to the cemlyn life- boat house where he also fulfilled his duties as the coxwain' (private correspondence).
