A circular medal, to the obverse with 'FOOTBALL ASSOCIATION CHARITY SHIELD' with central shield design, the reverse engraved 'A.R.MACAULAY ARSENAL F.C. 1947-48', hallmarked, Vaughton and Sons, 15ct gold, ring suspension. Diam. approx. 32mm.

  • The 1948 F.A. Charity Shield was contested by Arsenal and Manchester United, at Highbury on the 6th of October 1948. Arsenal won the match 4–3. Archie Macaulay started his playing career with Rangers. In 1937 he was transferred to West Ham United for £6,000. He was signed by Arsenal in July 1947 for £10,000. Macaulay made his Arsenal debut against Sunderland on 23rd August 1947 and was a near ever-present for the next two seasons, leaving for Fulham in June 1950.
