An ivory netsuke of a kirin
By Okamoto Garaku, Osaka, 19th century
Standing on a rectangular base with its head proudly raised and turned slightly to the left, its curly tail erect and flames licking up the sides of its knobbly body, the sides of the base are carved with a rinzu (key-fret) design and the ivory is stained, signed Garaku. 4.8cm (1 7/8in).
