A part 18th century oak-cased thirty-hour longcase clock
John Hough, High Leigh
Having a 11-inch brass dial, silvered chapter ring with Roman hours, signed 'John Hough, High Leigh', framing matted centre with date aperture; the movement with open countwheel rack-striking on a bell; the hood having caddie top and hand-painted verre eglomise panel, the turned columns with plain capitals, the shaped top crossbanded long door above a plain base, lacking plinth, (sold with weight and pendulum), 201cm (79") high

  • Brittens Clocks and Watchmakers lists a John Hough at Knutsford in the 1740's. The village of High Legh near Knutsford is often referred to in records as 'High Leigh', probably because of the Leigh family who owned the now demolished Leigh Hall.
