Footnotes

  • Literature: Two more highly-decorated chairs of comparable shape and form are illustrated V. Chinnery, Oak Furniture: The British Tradition (1993), pp. 242 - 243, Figures 3:18 and 3:19. The former is part of the Burrell Collection, Glasgow.

Most examples are dated to the first four decades of the 16th century. The slightly lighter construction of this chair possibly suggest a slightly later mid-16th century date.
