Footnotes

  • The eight-armed Indian goddess Ushnishavijaya is one of three deities associated with longevity and the fulfillment of earthly desires. The other two are the White Tara and Amitayus. Ushnishavijaya combines aspects of three goddesses (hence her three heads), each associated with a sadhana (wish).

Compare with a closely related example in the Olschak Collection in Ulrich von Schroeder, Indo-Tibetan Bronzes, Hong Kong, 1982, p. 551, no. 157D and another of similar scale sold by Koller, Zurich, May 7 and 8, 2013, lot 130.
