Multi-Color Tourmaline Carving of Three Parakeets on a Gold and Gemstone Perch
By Manfred Wild
Particularly spectacular in both design and execution is this fantastic carving depicting three parakeets rendered in multi-color tourmaline. The wings of each bird are book-matched to each other and the three birds carry a prodigious amount of tourmaline, weighing approximately 805.0, 644.0, 615.0 carats respectively. The beaks are formed of 18K yellow gold and the eyes are brilliant-cut diamonds, the feet 18K yellow gold.
The perch itself shows that no expense was spared: formed of carved and fluted sections of rock crystal between aventurine quartz they are profusely trimmed in 18K yellow gold. A cabochon green tourmaline tops the perch and calibré-cut tourmalines form the borders. With 18K fluted gold perches, weighing approximately 163 grams. Height 15in
