4to (235 x 180 mm). [16], xxxvi, 330 (i.e. 328), [4] pp. With 25 engraved plates (2 folding). Green calf gilt, top edges gilt, others uncut. Very light wear to spine, 3 plates toned, a few small damp stains and spots, else near fine.

FIRST EDITION of this rare work by Portugal's greatest sculptor on the equestrian statue of D. José. The statue is widely regarded as Castro's finest work, and is considered one of Lisbon's most important monuments.
