STEINBERG, SAUL. 1914-1999.
Allegory, ink and crayon on paper, 495 x 395 mm, signed and dated "Steinberg 1964" lower right, fine. Matted and framed.
A mock-allegory depicting at center a serpent on a pedestal gripping a question mark in its mouth, its body pierced by a triangle, an eagle at upper left clutching an unfurled scroll pierced by a sword, a dove hovering above the eagle with a crown of laurel, and other quasi-allegorical elements. At the base of the pedestal is a faint ink seal, one of Steinberg's trademarks.
