GEISEL, THEODORE. 1904-1991.
"Please Do Not Ask for Breakfast in Bed...," watercolor and pencil on paper, 293 x 280 mm, siged lower right "Dr. Seuss," fine. Matted and framed.
The former owner was given this amusing drawing when he was staying with the Geisels in their mountain home in La Jolla, California. Finished watercolors by Dr. Seuss are rare as he did most of his book, magazine and advertising pictures in black ink with color overlays. This is an especially fine example of his wild sense of humor and his skill as a painter. Both the tight style and lush color scheme suggest that it was done about the time of his full-color picture book McElligot's Pool (1947).
