The top of en arc d'arbalète outline inset with a gilt tooled leather writing panel, above three frieze drawers to the undulating apron, decorated with lacquered panels depicting birds and buildings in landscapes within C-scroll and foliate encadrements, raised on angular cabriole legs headed by shells and trailing to scroll sabots, stamped twice to the underside A. BEURDELEY À PARIS.

Footnotes

  • This bureau is based on a model by Nicolas Pierre Séverin, well-known under the appellation "bureau de l'abbé Terray", previously in the Ministère des Finances, now in the Musée du Louvre since 1924 (OA 7805). This bureau plat has been copied by the finest cabinet makers of the late 19th century, such as Beurdeley, but also Dasson and Durand.
