Footnotes

  • Addison Mizner (1872-1933) was responsible for introducing the Mediterranean Revival style to architecture and interior decoration in South Florida in the early 1920s, creating elegant and comfortable mansions for wealthy participants in the Florida land boom. After a grandiose attempt to develop Boca Raton into the "Venice of the Atlantic" failed with the collapse of the boom in 1926, Mizner continued with other projects, including a collaboration with Lockwood de Forest Jr. on Casa Bienvenida in Montecito, California.
