by Edward & John Barnard, London; retailed by Thomas', New Bond St., 1867
In the form of an Antique skyphos, repousse-decorated with berried ivy branches, raised on a cylindrical pedestal, later monogrammed "LL" and inscribed "With all our love/ on your/ 80th Birthday / September 20, 1969, Eric and Family," weight approximately 63oz troy.
height 14 1/4in (36cm); width 11 3/4in (30cm); depth 7 1/4in (18.5cm).

  • The form and decoration of this urn is based on a drinking vessel uncovered during an archaeological dig in Pompeii in 1835. During antiquity ivy was thought to be a remedy for headaches as well as a symbol for immortality.
