    Galerie Marcel Bernheim, Paris.

Henri Jean Guillaume Martin's present work captures leafy and languid poplars. As a characteristic scene throughout Martin's works, this depiction of the village, Labastide-du-Vert, reveals a haven of tranquility. This region became an enclave for Martin. The artist revisited this scene often throughout his painterly career, where the play of both light and shadow amongst a peaceful and commanding portion of nature can be seen.
