Atlas and 2 text volumes. Elephant folio (627 x 482 mm) and 4to (312 x 240 mm). Engraved vignette on title, and 79 (of 80) lithographed and chromolithographed plates in atlas; 8 plates in each text volume. Period half morocco and marbled boards, raised bands, spines gilt in compartments, a.e.g. Lacking final plate, front flyleaf of atlas partially detached, occasional age toning to text volumes, some rubbing and minor wear to bindings, joint just starting.
Provenance: M[ichel] Cajrati, Milan (bookplate in atlas).

FIRST EDITION of this monumental work on the ornamental arts of the Classical period, commissioned by the Government School of Design. With both the English and French text volumes. Treating of architectural ornaments, monochrome designs, Pompeiana, church and palace decoration. This copy from the library of Michel Cajrati, an architect living and practicing in Milan at the turn of the 20th century.
