A pair of boards for Volume II of the double-elephant folio edition of The Birds of America, 39 x 26 inches, period straight-grained morocco, upper board blocked in gilt "Audubon's / Birds of America / Vol. II / London 1831-34," covers triple gilt ruled with foliated gilt border within, successive triple gilt rule with foliated border mirroring the first, spine gilt ruled in panels. Upper board rubbed and cracked with chipping at extremities, old repair to top edge, upper board detached from spine with top half of spine perished and chipping to the remains, light rubbing and edgewear to lower board.

A PAIR OF BOARDS FROM A BOUND SET OF THE DOUBLE-ELEPHANT FOLIO. "It is unlikely that as many as two hundred complete sets were bound up" (Sitwell p 74).
