Two miniatures from a book of hours in Latin, [France, late 15th century], 107 x 77 mm. Single columns, 3 and 5 lines, French bâtarde bookhand. First miniature opening John 1:1 (depicting St. John writing his gospel), the second opening Psalm 6:3-2 (David's prayer for mercy, depicting King David kneeling before God, his harp at his side). Decorative borders incorporating birds, flowers, acanthus foliage, and on one, strawberries, indicating the illuminations were done by a Benedictine. Matted and framed together to 190 x 260 mm.
WITH: Psalter Leaf in Latin, [France, late 15th century], 145 x 106 mm. Single column, 22 lines in French bâtarde bookhand, with 7 initials in color and heightened in gilt. Border with miniature of a rabbit with flowers and acanthus foliage. Psalms 41:9-12. "In die mandavit domine...." Matted and framed to 230 x 190 mm.
AND: Leaf from a book of hours in Latin, at Lauds [France, late 15th century], 184 x 137 mm. Single column, 12 lines, gothic bookhand, three initials in color and heightened in gold. Border with spray of ivy and holly leaves, and one flower. Matted and framed to 276 x 243 mm.
