A French gilt and patinated bronze figural mantel clock
second half 19th century
Surmounted by the figure of the reclining Aristotle, holding a pencil in one hand, a scroll inscribed LE BONHEUR NAIT DE LA VERTU in the other, the conforming case centered by the circular white enamel dial with Roman hours above a grape and vine leaf swag, flanked by flowerhead and scrolling foliate ornament, raised on paw feet, the reverse of case stamped 1455 twice, the twin train movement with outside count wheel and silk suspension striking on a bell, the backplate with Raingo Frères pastille and numbered 1455.
