A blue and white 'aquatic' incense burner
Ming dynasty Raised on three feet with a cylindrical body with bulbous sides, decorated with a continuous aquatic scene on the exterior, featuring lotus leaves and blossoms. 8.7cm high.

The aquatic scene featured on the current lot is very similar to the interior of a blue and white stem bowl with lotus flowers and mandarin ducks, exhibited in the Shanghai Museum and originally from the Ashmolean Museum of Art and Archaeology, Oxford, see Spendours in Smalt.
