A finely carved pair of ivory 'eighteen luohan' wristrests

Each naturalistically carved in the form of a stem of bamboo, carved in deep relief with eighteen luohan complete with their respective attirbutes, depicted engaged in various activities amongst pavilions and lush pine trees, the reverse carved with the Daoist figure Ma Gu depicted carrying a flower basket and leading a deer up a mountainous path towards a distant pavilion.
