A rare pair of Meissen figures mounted on ormolu candelabra, circa 1755
Probably modelled by F.E. Mayer, the gentleman holding fruiting vines in a dance pose by a brickwork pedestal and a leafy tree-stump at the rear, wearing a puce suit with yellow waistcoat, the lady standing by a similar pedestal with one foot resting on a branch, holding a flower basket and a posy in her left hand, wearing a salmon-pink jacket and flower-decorated skirt with elaborate formal border, the bases modelled with gilt-edged scrollwork and applied with leaves and flowers, the pedestals each mounted with a gilt-metal urn, each mounted on an ormolu pierced scrollwork base applied at the rear with three foliate scrollwork arms terminating with a foliate sconce and drip-tray, 36cm high overall, crossed swords mark in underglaze-blue to rear of base with gentleman (lady's left arm restuck, minor damage) (2)
