12mo (171 x 94 mm). 66 pp. Original buff cloth over boards. Custom chemise, morocco-backed slipcase. Dampstain throughout, notation to endpapers, binding worn.
Provenance: ownership signature of John Crawford, and his note on the front pastedown dated 1827; Bruce E. McKinney.

FIRST SEPARATE PRINTING of this captivity narrative on the Ohio/Pennsylvania frontier. Also includes dispatches documenting General St. Clair's defeat in 1791. The editor, John Winter, makes a prescient observation in the foreword: "There is a time coming, too, when the aborigines of this country will excite much more attention than at present; and when every thing relative to their character, mode of life, exploits, warfare and savage cruelty, will be sought after with great avidity."
