Broadside (315 x 180 mm). 2 pp on a bifolium. Folds, verso with trace of wax seal and manuscript address "For The Committee of Correspondence for Newbury Port," folds strengthened on verso with tissue at several points, one or two clean splits, small loss at one fold intersection touching a few letters.
A RARE BROADSIDE, CALLING UPON THE TOWN OF NEWBURY PORT TO BOYCOTT BRITISH GOODS. After Parliament closed the port of Boston and revoked its charter in retaliation for the Tea Party, Samuel Adams and his Committee of Correspondence drew up a "Solemn League and Covenant"—a pledge to cease purchasing British goods and cease trading with those who refused to sign up. The present broadside accompanied copies of the Covenant, and aimed to affect "the trade and interest of Great Britain so deeply as shall induce her to withdraw her oppressive hand ... a solemn league, not to import goods from Great Britain ... until our grievances shall be redressed." Evans 13157; Ford 1708.
