MAUGHAM, W. SOMERSET. 1874-1965.
Autograph Letter Signed ("W. Somerset Maugham"), 3 pp, 8vo (conjoined leaves), Westminster, January 8, [c.1899], personal stationery, to William Morris Colles, internal "received" stamp and a few secretarial annotations, uneven toning, light soiling, short tear to bottom margin touching signature, pinhole, folding creases.

An early letter by Maugham informing Colles, his first literary agent, that he is soon coming to him "with a complete novel - all about a Church of England parson and his wife"; and that he is on his way to Spain and wishes to partially rewrite his manuscript of The Land of the Blessed Virgin. Colles served as Maugham's agent from 1897-1905.
