Footnotes

  • Jaguar's acquisition of Daimler in 1960 brought with it the latter's splendid lightweight V8 engines. The 2.5-litre unit proved superior to Jaguar's 2.4-litre XK six and the opportunity was taken to create an up-market, Daimler-badged variant of the Jaguar Mk2 saloon using this power unit. Launched in 1962 as the '2½-Litre V8', the model came with Borg Warner automatic transmission as standard and turned out to be a fine performer, its 110mph top speed exceeding that of an overdrive-equipped 2.4-litre Mk2. The model was later up-dated along the lines of the Jaguar 240/340, becoming the 'V8 250'.

This Daimler V8 250 was purchased by the current vendor in New Zealand approximately 11 years ago. Works carried out in New Zealand include a gearbox and torque converter rebuild, new sills, rubbers, door seals and a re-spray (1989); repairs to the brake servo and a radiator rebuild (1999); new ignition leads, carburettor needles/seats and a starter motor overhaul (2001); and new exhaust tailpipes (2002). Four new tyres were fitted in February 2011. The accompanying history file contains various invoices for spare parts and several 'Warrants of Fitness' (the NZ equivalent of the MoT certificate). The original certificate of registration (dated 5th September 1966) is on file also. Finished in blue with matching leather interior, the car is described as in generally good condition and offered with old-style logbook, SORN, Swansea V5C document and fresh MoT.
