1955 Land Rover 86" Series I Registration no. 437 JBU Chassis no. 57105776 Engine no. 111704842
This Land Rover Series I on the 86"-wheelbase chassis has the 1,997cc petrol engine introduced in 1952. The vehicle benefits from a complete 'last nut and bolt' nine-year rebuild completed earlier in 2013. Works carried out include a full engine rebuild; reconditioning the carburettor, dynamo and starter motor; and fitting a new clutch, shock absorbers, tyres, brake shoes, copper brake pipes and all universal joints. The gearbox, axles and steering column were dismantled and checked for wear, which was found to be within acceptable limits. The road springs were dismantled, the leaves cleaned and reassembled, and the wheels shot blasted and powder coated. Other refurbishment included fully rebuilding the bulkhead, and shot blasting and repainting the chassis. All galvanised body fittings were removed and re-galvanised, as were the door tops, windscreen frame and hood frame. Body fastening nuts and bolts were replaced with new Sheradised items, Sheradising being the zinc-based anti-corrosion treatment used originally. A new canvas top and seats were supplied by Exmoor Trim. Used as wedding transport in July, '437 JBU' recently picked up two awards at a local agricultural show. Described by the private vendor as in generally good condition, having covered only 900 miles since completion, this well restored Land Rover is offered with engine rebuild receipts, current road fund licence and Swansea V5 registration document.
