1968 BSA 650cc A65L Lightning
Registration no. UYY 589F
Frame no. A65LA 17150
Engine no. A65LA 17150-Y
This BSA Lightning was purchased by the vendor in November 1994. Following a limited amount of use, the engine was deemed to require attention and a local firm, Classic Motorcycle Engineering Services of York, was entrusted with the job of stripping and rebuilding it (see invoice on file). A replacement second-hand crankshaft, reground and fitted with new big-end shells, was installed while new bearings were used throughout the engine and gearbox. In addition, the cylinder barrel was re-bored and new pistons fitted, together with unleaded-compatible exhaust valve seats. An electronic ignition system has been installed and the exhaust pipes and silencers replaced (in 2003, invoice on file). Since then the Lightning has had very little use as the owner worked abroad for some years. It has covered approximately 1,800 miles only since the rebuild and was last taxed/MoT'd to January/February 2013. The battery has been connected to a conditioning unit and should prove to be in useable order. Accompanying documentation consists of the aforementioned invoices, a quantity of old MoT certificates and tax discs, current SORN and old/current Swansea V5/V5C documents. A copy handbook and parts book, plus Haynes and Clymer workshop manuals are included in the sale.
- This lot is a late entry. There is no SORN offered with this machine.
