1956 Triumph 650cc Thunderbird
Registration no. KBN 532
Frame no. 79537
Engine no. 6T D18871
Always a step ahead of their rivals, Triumph followed up the trend-setting Speed Twin 500 of pre-war days by being first in the field with a 650cc parallel twin, the Thunderbird, which was announced in September 1949. The Thunderbird remained in production in fundamentally its original form until 1962, though with progressively updated cycle parts, one of the most significant developments along the way being the introduction of a swinging arm frame for 1955. This particular Thunderbird had already been restored when it was purchased by the current vendor in 2012, since when it has seen little use. Fitted with a 1962 engine, ‘KBN 532’ has also been upgraded with a 9-stud cylinder head, twin-leading shoe front brake, 12-volt electrics and an Amal Concentric carburettor, all of which featured on later Triumph twins. Described as in generally good condition, its engine running well, the machine is offered with current MoT/tax, old-style logbook and old/current Swansea V5/V5C documents.
