1964 BMW 594cc R69S
Registration no. EGF 417B
Frame no. 658261
Engine no. 658261
In 1955 BMW introduced two important new models, the R50 and R69, which deployed the updated engine introduced a few years previously in all-new cycle parts featuring an Earles-type leading-link front fork and swinging-arm rear suspension enclosing the drive-shaft in the right leg. The R50/69 were produced until the arrival of the slightly more powerful 'S' versions for 1961. A luxury tourer with a top speed of 110mph, the R69S cost as much as a small family car and sold to discerning enthusiasts to whom expense mattered little when set against the excellence of BMW engineering. Delivered in April 1964 via Phillips & Broomfield of Reading, this R69S comes with a letter, written to the immediately preceding owner, listing its ownership history from new up to 2002. We are advised that over the last two years the engine has been rebuilt by marque specialists Scriminger Engine Developments of Sleaford, works carried out including a re-bore and renewing the pistons and timing gears. 'EGF 417B' is equipped with a dual seat, deep sump and the highly sought-after Hoske touring fuel tank. Other noteworthy features include new wheels, new stainless steel exhaust system, rewired electrics, 12-volt alternator and a Burlen battery. Described as in generally good condition, with excellent engine, the machine is offered with sundry invoices, old-style logbook, current road fund licence, MoT to July 2014, Swansea V5C document and a quantity of expired MoT certificates.
