Lot Details
1962 Alfa Romeo 2600 Sprint Coupé
Coachwork by Carrozzeria Bertone

Chassis no. AR820392
Engine no. 00387

Coachwork by Carrozzeria Bertone
Chassis no. AR820392
Engine no. 00387

Introduced in 1962, Alfa Romeo's 106-Series 2600 range was a direct replacement for the preceding 102-Series 2000 cars. The latter's chassis design and body styles were retained, with minor revisions and improvements, but in place of the old 2.0-litre, four-cylinder engine was a new, 2,584cc, twin-cam six descended from the immensely successful Giulietta.

A maximum output of 145bhp was claimed for this unit when installed in the Sprint Coupé and Spider, good enough for a top speed of around 125mph in 5th gear. Approximately 2,255 Spiders and 6,999 Sprint Coupés were produced between 1962 and 1966, and today these rare and under-appreciated models are becoming increasingly sought after by discerning collectors.

Delivered new to Denmark, this 2600 Sprint has had only five owners from new. Stored unused from approximately 1970 to 1990, it displays a total of only 81,000 kilometres on the odometer. The last owner, Ole Emil Riisager, was the editor of the Danish Veteran Car Club's magazine for owner 40 years. We are advised that the body was restored and repainted circa 1990/91 and that only 2,000-or-so kilometres have been covered since the engine was rebuilt. (An invoice for the engine rebuild and a photographic record of the body restoration are on file). Offered with Danish registration papers, the car is described by the vendor as in wonderful condition and comes complete with handbook and tool kit.
