Introduite en 1955 comme nouvel haut de gamme de Ford, la série Fairlane – désignée par le nom de la propriété de Henry Ford « Fair Lane » à Dearborn – qui venait rivaliser avec la très réussie Bel Air de Chevrolet fut proposée sous six styles de carrosserie différents et avec au choix des moteurs à six cylindres ou V8.

La gamme Fairlane offrait un style spécifique avec des « paupières » chromées au-dessus des phares et une moulure latérale mouvementée soulignant un schéma de peinture en deux teintes contrastées disponible en option avec supplément. Parmi les styles de carrosseries proposés, la variante Town Sedan fut la plus diffusée suivie par la club Victoria puis la Club Sedan dont 142 629 exemplaires furent vendus en 1956 sur une production totale de Fairlane de 665 306 exemplaires.

Deux moteurs V8 étaient proposés au choix : un 272 (4,5 litres) standard et un 292 (4,8 litres) Thunderbird donnant respectivement 162 et 193 ch La boîte standard était une « manuelle » à trois rapports avec, en option, un overdrive ou une automatique Ford-O-Matic. Rapides, élégantes et solidement construites, les Fairlane sont depuis quelque temps de plus en plus appréciées et recherchées par les amateurs d'Americana des années 1950.

Nous savons que cette Ford Fairlane Club Sedan est en état de marche et accompagnée de ses papiers néerlandais. La plaque de châssis précise qu'elle est dotée du préférable moteur V8 Thunderbird 292 (codé « M »).

Introduced as Ford's new top-of-the-range model in 1955, the Fairlane - named after Henry Ford's 'Fair Lane' mansion in Dearborn - was rival to Chevrolet's successful Bel Air and came in six different body styles with a choice of six-cylinder or V8 engines.

The Fairlane range had its own distinctive style, featuring chromed headlight 'eyebrows' and a prominent, swooping side stripe, with eye catching two-tone paintwork available as an extra cost option. Of the body styles available, the Town Sedan variant was the most popular followed by the Club Victoria and then the Club Sedan, 142,629 examples of which were sold in 1956 out of a total Fairlane production that year of 665,306 units.

There was a choice of two V8 engines – 272ci (4.5-litre) standard and 292ci (4.8-litre) Thunderbird – producing 162 and 193bhp respectively. The stock transmission was a three-speed manual, with overdrive and Ford-o-Matic (automatic) transmission as options. Fast, stylish and solidly built, these first-of-the-line Fairlanes have, in recent times, become increasingly appreciated and sought after by discerning collectors of 1950s Americana.

We are advised that this Ford Fairlane Club Sedan is in running order and comes with Netherlands registration papers. The chassis plate indicates that it has the desirable 292ci Thunderbird V8 engine (code 'M').

Buyers' Premium and Charges

Like the vast majority of auctioneers Bonhams charge what is known as a Buyer's Premium. Buyer's Premium on all Automobilia lots will adhere to Bonhams group policy:

25% up to £50,000 of hammer price,
20% from £50,001 to £1,000,000 of hammer price,
and 12% on the balance thereafter. This applies to each lot purchased and is subject to VAT.

For Motor Cars and Motorcycles a 15% Buyer's Premium is payable on the first £50,000 of the final Hammer Price of each Lot, and 12% on any amount by which the Hammer Price exceeds £50,000. VAT at the standard rate is payable on the Premium by all Buyers, unless otherwise stated.

Some lots may be subject to VAT on the Hammer Price. These lots will be clearly marked with the relevant symbol printed beside the lot number in the catalogue.
