1934 Panhard et Levassor X72 Berline Panoramique
Chassis no. 97472
Engine no. 97472

Chassis no. 97472
Engine no. 97472

Introduced in 1934, the Panoramique featured a unique body style that made it stand out from its contemporaries, incorporating a 'double A-post' windscreen support designed to improve visibility. It was this feature that gave the car its name. Built to Panhard's traditionally high standards, some 2,500 examples of the Panoramique had been produced in various versions by the time production ceased in 1938.

Of right-hand drive configuration like many pre-war French automobiles, this Panhard et Levassor has a 2.5-litre, six-cylinder engine of the Knight sleeve-valve type first used by the company in 1911. Preserved in highly original condition, the car was purchased in Colmar in 1964 by the last owner's brother, who was an engineering student in Strasbourg at that time, and remained in his collection until earlier this year.

Art Deco influence is apparent in details such as the indicator cluster on the left rear wing, the painted imitation wood dashboard and the delicately slotted instrument panel. The car is finished in bronze with brown fabric upholstery (protected by green covers) while the matching carpets are protected by rubber mats in the front. Its bodywork, paintwork and chrome are described as in very good condition, as are the mechanicals, the engine benefiting from an overhauled fuel pump and carburettor. The car is offered with two instruction manuals and French Carte Grise.
