Formerly the property of World Champion Wayne Gardner
1986 Honda VF1000R
Frame no. SC162 200 400
One of only 530 VF1000Rs delivered new to Europe in 1986, this example was first owned by Wayne Gardner, winner of the 500cc World Championship for Honda in 1987, and is finished in the colours of Rothmans, the Japanese company's headline sponsor at that time. We are advised by the current vendor, a private collector who once owned some 50 machines, that it incorporates various modifications intended to improve performance. These include a modified air box and altered carburettor jetting; thinner cylinder head gasket for a compression ratio of 11.0:1 (standard 10.5:1) and a modified exhaust system. The result is a maximum power output of around 125bhp (up from 100bhp). A total of only 31,000 kilometres is recorded on the odometer and the machine was last serviced at 29,400 kilometres. Works carried out in recent years include renewing the cooling system O-rings; professionally cleaning and sealing the fuel tank; overhauling the brakes and ultrasonically cleaning the carburettors, plus the usual changes of spark plugs, fluids and filters. The battery, DID chain and Bridgestone BT45 tyres are relatively new. The machine is offered with sundry invoices and Swiss Carte Grise recording Wayne Gardner as owner.
- The machine is offered with and currently registered on a German Fahrzeugbrief.
