Built in strictly limited numbers - only 549 were produced in five batches between 1971 and 1976 - the 750SFC production racer is today one of the most collectible of Laverda's early twins and thus highly sought after. This particular 750SFC was originally owned and raced by the Canadian Laverda importer, Lawrence 'Larry' Strung, who used it to win that country's 1986 Super Vintage Championship. One of the fastest 750SFCs around at that time, with circa 85bhp on tap, Strung's was tuned and prepared by Steve Ferree of Blaine, Minnesota, a highly respected engineer also involved with the Reno Leoni-built Ducatis ridden by Jimmy Adamo in the Pro-Twins class. With Strung aboard, the Laverda competed at the Daytona 200 meeting in the late 1980s/early 1990s, recording a 7th place finish in the 1991 '750 Grand Prix' event (see magazine article, race programme and results sheet on file). The current owner has ridden the SFC at a few historic events in Europe.
During the 1970s the machine was used on the road in Canada and comes with the relevant registration papers enabling it to be reregistered should the new owner so desire. At the moment the Laverda incorporates the frame (number '17137') listed on the registration document, which started life in one of approximately 100 machines built for the North American market in June/July 1974 (see Registry records on file). The original (un-stamped) frame is included in the sale together with the original tubular swinging arm, the box-section 'arm fitted at present being preferred for its superior stability on fast tracks such as Daytona and Spa-Francorchamps. Other specification highlights include a gas-flowed cylinder head, close-ratio (Cambio Corsa) gear set, Lucas electronic ignition, Ceriani front fork, Marzocchi shock absorbers, Brembo brake callipers, Borrani alloy wheel rims, Kröber rev counter, Tomaselli handlebars and Marchal headlights.
