c.1960 Velocette 499cc Venom Clubman
Registration no. 5156 VG 61
Frame no. RS14015
Engine no. VM5600
Produced until the end of Velocette production in 1971, the Venom and Viper in their various guises represent the final glorious flowering of the traditional British sports single, and today these supremely well-engineered thoroughbreds are highly sought after. In 1960 Velocette had introduced 'Clubman' versions of the Venom and Viper, which featured a raised compression ratio, Amal TT carburettor, 'racing' magneto, rear-set footrests and a close-ratio gearbox among many other improvements. Both during production and after it ceased, Venoms and Vipers were upgraded by their owners to broadly 'Clubman' specification. This example is one such example, featuring a swept-back/raised exhaust system, clip-on handlebars, rear-set footrests, single 'racing' seat and a nosecone fairing. The machine is offered with French Carte Grise normale. It should be noted that the dynamo drive cover is missing.
