Originally founded in 1893 by Joseph Magnat and Luis Debon in Lyon as a bicycle manufacturing company which moved into motorcycles Magnat Debon, later based in Grenoble, were financially controlled by the Dijon-based Terrot concern from 1923. Although at first the two makes remained distinct from each other, as the century progressed the two converged with Magnat Debon increasingly becoming a 'sous-marque' of the parent company, using Terrot components. By the 1950s the makes were almost identical, differences being mainly in colour scheme and badging, the Terrot OSSD forming the base for both. Mechanically, the firm's 'square' OHV 250 was a reliable and sporting ride and is a sought-after model. This example, to original specification, has a current Carte Grise and should respond well to re-commissioning and the usual safety checks.

Fondée à l'origine (1893) par Joseph Magnat et Louis Debon pour produire des bicyclettes, la société Magnat-Debon commença la production de motocyclettes à Grenoble avant de passer sous le contrôle de Terrot (de Dijon) en 1923. Si les productions demeurèrent séparées pendant quelque temps, les fabrications se rapprochèrent vers la fin des années 1920 et Magnat-Debon devint peu à peu une « sous-marque » de Terrot dont elle utilisait les composants. Dans les années 1950, les productions sur la base de la Terrot OSSD étaient pratiquement identiques, les seules différences concernant les teintes et les écussons. Sur le plan mécanique, la 250 « carrée » à soupapes en tête, fiable et sportive, est devenue un modèle recherché. Cet exemplaire aux spécifications originales, qui possède sa carte grise, ne réclame qu'une vérification et les habituels contrôles des organes de sécurité pour prendre la route.
