Automoto was a considerable maker of good-quality bicycles who, as was normal in the 1900s, turned to motorcycles. Founded in St, Etienne, Loire, France, the company remained there until ultimately being absorbed into the Peugeot concern. Motive power for their extensive production of motorcycles before 1930 came from such respected firms as Chaise, Zurcher, J.A.P. and Villiers, and post-war, the Automoto name continued until the 1960s.
The excellent work of Ets. Chaise in producing a powerful, overhead-camshaft engine unit, comparable to those from English makers such as Velocette, motivated the best of French independent motorcycle makers to build machines to suit this innovative power-unit. The Automoto design at the head of their 1928 range was the A11, a fast machine with a high level of equipment as standard, including electric lighting and tank-top instrumentation. The model was a success in all respects, gaining, as did most Automoto products, a reputation for power, stability, good handling and, importantly, good brakes.
The A11 offered here is a very careful restoration of an intact and original machine and is thus complete with its correct set of original equipment including the Marchal lighting set, correct twin exhausts with Automoto-branded silencers, three French Jaeger instruments (5,262km recorded), a lever-operated centre-stand and the original Reims supplier's plaque. Requiring the usual re-commissioning and safety checks, this fine example of a French '20s sports machine should give much pleasure to its new owner. The machine is offered with French Carte Grise.

Important fabricant de cycles de qualité, Automoto, comme beaucoup d'autres spécialistes, se tourna vers le motocycle dans les années 1900. Le modèle Automoto haut de gamme en 1928 fut l'A11, machine rapide dotée d'origine d'un équipement de haut niveau dont un éclairage électrique et un tableau de bord sur le sommet du réservoir. Ce modèle, une réussite sur tous les points, acquit, comme la plupart des produits Automoto, une réputation de puissance, de stabilité, de comportement sain et, détail important, de bon freinage.
L'A11 proposée ici a bénéficié d'une restauration soignée digne d'une machine intacte et d'origine, donc complète et dotée de ses équipements d'époque dont un éclairage Marchal, deux échappements avec silencieux marqués Automoto, trois instruments Jaeger français (5 262 km au compteur), une béquille centrale à levier et la plaque originale du fournisseur rémois. Moyennant l'indispensable révision et le contrôle des éléments de sécurité que réclame toute moto de collection, cette superbe machine de sport française des années 1920 ne pourra que satisfaire son heureux propriétaire.
