Qing dynasty Naturalistically worked with artistic flair, the organic composition encapsulating the ideals of a scholar recluse, depicted rising from three irregular feet conjoining at the epicenter, the suspended body structure further extending outwards in twisted and knotted ends, the wood of a deep mahogany and sepia tone with natural grains. 28.2cm long.
Provenance 來源: Old Tianjin collection
The current lot encapsulated the eccentricities and refined taste which were particularly favoured by the literati class. The unusual form is highly suggestive to whether it represents naturalistic beauty of freedom or pushing the restrictive boundaries of technical superiority. Such scholarly objects would have been displayed on a scholar's desk, inviting the viewer to ponder them in deep contemplation.
