Zhou Chen (1460–1535) alias Shunqing, sobriquet Dongcun, was born in Suzhou, Jiangsu province, and was a renowned Chinese painter active during the mid Ming Dynasty. He specialised in landscape and figurative paintings and was the teacher of the famous painters Tang Yin and Qiu Ying. Zhou painted in a conservative style based on Southern Song (1127–1279) landscape paintings from his teacher Chen Xian (1405–1496), who specialised in the baimiao or 'plain-line' technique.
