  In contrast to Chinese export porelain figures of animals and birds made for the Western market, the creation of the current lot involved a series of complex stages, including tightly incised textures forming the exterior bodywork and the use of different colour palettes. The animal figures were fired twice to achieve realism and naturalistic beauty.

  清乾隆 御製粉彩雕瓷鴨一對
  
  卧式鴨昂首，嘴微張開，白色翅膀揚起，尾部上翹。全身填粉彩，一隻嘴巴及雙蹼呈橙黃色，雙翅及尾部呈灰藍色，另一隻只在嘴巴及雙蹼處填黃色。鴨上凸雕羽翼，層次分明，上再篦劃羽毛，細緻清晰，足底平坦，但有刻劃蹼掌，無款。
  
  北京故宮博物院舊藏粉彩雕瓷鴨一件，在工藝及神態上與本拍品如出一轍，見葉佩蘭主編，《故宮博物院藏文物珍品大系.琺瑯彩.粉彩》，上海，1999，頁172，編號153。根此書說明，此器集雕塑、篦劃及彩繪，再以二次燒成，工序多且複雜，是仿生瓷中之精品。
