Of rounded rectangular form, the lid carved to simulate a node of bamboo, decorated with a fish, shell, shrimp and bamboo in gold and silver takamakie, a crab inlaid in green-stained ivory and a large octopus inlaid in bone, eyes all inlaid; the interior of the lid lacquered with paulownia in gold takamakie with inlaid shell blossoms, the interior of the base with Rimpa-style waves in silver and gold togidashi, fitted with removable tray, an ink-stone and a silver water-dropper in the form of a butterfly inlaid in copper and shakudo, the rims rogin nuri
