A Florentine Renaissance style carved walnut bedroom suite
attributed to Luigi Frullini
third quarter 19th century
Comprising an armoire, a bed and a pair of side cabinets overall carved with panels of putti, garland swags, scrolled griffin and balustrade supports, the bed with an allegorical figure of night in the form of a winged fairy reclining on a sliver of a waning moon.

  • Luigi Frullini (1839-1897), a master Italian carver, exhibited work in 1862 at the London International exhibition, the Paris Expositions Universalle in 1867 and again in 1878. Examples of his craftsmanship can be found in several museum collections across the globe including the Victoria & Albert Museum, London, the Philadelphia Museum of Art and the Musee d'Orsay, Paris.
