Three printed volumes decorated with fore-edge paintings
The first a single volume (juan 5) from the Ming Wanli period publication Xing Li Hui Yao Mu Lu, with a fore-edge painting of a Landscape in Blue-green Style, rendered in ink and color, inscribed and dated jimao dong (winter of 1939) and signed Lu Hongnian with three seals; the second a single volume (juan 23-24) from the late Ming publication Zhu Zi Qi Shang (ed. Chen Renxi, 1581-1636), with a fore-edge painting of Christ as the Good Shepherd, rendered in ink and color; the third a single volume (juan 385-386) from the Tang dynasty publication Wen Ran Ying Hua, likely a Ming dynasty edition, with a fore-edge painting of The Presentation (of Christ) in the Temple, depicting the Christ child presented by Mary and Joseph in a temple, the scene painted in a traditional Chinese style and rendered in ink and color; each volume with a decorative cloth case.
