A carved steatite snuff bottle
1820-1880
Of rectangular section with a narrow flat rim to the circular spreading neck and supported on a circular foot ring, one face carved with two sages approaching a garden pavilion beneath a pine tree that continues onto the side, the scene covering a golden-brown stratum in the pale gray-green matrix with deeper russet patches and natural fissure lines on the opposing walls (abrasion, tiny chips).
