Footnotes

  • The whaling bark Charles W Morgan was built by Jethro and Zachariah Hillman in New Bedford, Massachusetts in 1841 for the whaling merchant of the same name. She worked as a whaling boat for 80 years during the peak of the whaling industry, making 37 voyages and catching and processing more whales that any other whaling ship in history. She sailed for New Bedford and San Francisco and due to the decline in whale oil prices in the early 20th century, her whaling days came to the end in 1921.
