Jonathan Leak was born in 1779 in Burslem, England. He was deported to Australia in 1819 on the charge of burglary. Governor Lachlan Macquarie recognised his worth as a pottery and put him in paid work in the Government Pottery. In 1822 he was granted his ticket of leave. Leak was able to bring his wife and children to Sydney and in 1823 obtained two land grants and established his own pottery, helped by his sons.18cm high 7" high).
