Footnotes

  • These marble sculptures are attributed to The Flemish artist Giusto de Corte also known as Josse Le Court (1627-1678). After a stay in Rome where he met Bernini and Duquesnoy, he established his workshop in Venice in 1657 where he worked for the architect Longhena. He notably executed the group of the high altar of Santa Maria della Salute church, after a design by Longhena, where the putti can be compared to the present figures. He was also commissioned work for profane buildings such as the putto symbolizing "Winter" in the Grand Staircase of la Ca Rezzonico and the marble putti of the staircase of la Ca Sagredo.
