The valley of Khatmandoo; Pushpatti, Khatmandoo British School, 1883 or 1888
watercolours on paper, both signed in monogram M D, one dated indistinctly '83 or '88, framed 350 x 245 mm.(2)
The reverse of each picture bears a label from a Christie's sale, 20th April 1994, lot 31.
It was suggested by A. H. Morton that the paintings were executed by a relative, perhaps the wife, of Sir Edmund Durand, Bt., who was British Resident in Nepal in the 1870s-80s. Nepal was otherwise closed to British subjects at that time.
