India 18th - early 20th Century
the first of silver, of rectangular form engraved with an inscription-filled cartouche surrounded by a band of circle motifs, the fob of foliate form; the second of steel, of octagonal form, engraved with two lines of inscription; the third of silver, of oval form engraved with two lines of inscription with filigree fob; the fourth of carnelian, of rectangular form engraved with three bands of inscription, the silver fob in the form of four foliate vines surmounted by suspension loop; the fifth of steel, of circular form with hinged fob, engraved with three lines of inscription, to the reverse with inscription in relief; the sixth of silver, of baluster form terminating in two circular seals

    Brown was employed by the East India Company as Magistrate, officiating as Commissioner of Revenue in the Bhagupo India.His son is Lieutenant-Colonel Francis David Millet Brown V.C. Bengal Staff Corps.

    4)'James Nathaniel Rind 1196 (1781-2)
    Major James Nathaniel Rind (d.1814) was commissioned into the Bengal Marines in 1778 and later transferred to the 18th native Infantry. Between 1785 and 1789 he was based at Calcutta and was part of a team of officers involved in a survey of India. His son, also called James Nathaniel, was a captain in the 37th Native Infantry and was killed aged 32 at Gandamak on the retreat from Kabul in 1842.
    A large group of natural history studies from the Rind Collection was sold at Sotheby's 13 July 1971, lots 1-48.
